New Falklands contracts

Article Abstract:

The UK Ministry of Defense has awarded British International Helicopters (BIH) a five-year contract worth 18 million pounds sterling to provide the Falklands Islands Garrison with utility helicopter support. Helicopters are being moved for operations in the South Atlantic include two Sikorsky S-61N helicopters. The two helicopters have been reconfigured to meet the operational needs of the contract. The main role of the helicopters is to move passengers, equipment and underslung loads between sites in East and West Falklands. Bristow Helicopters, which previously held the helicopter support contract, was reportedly edged out by BIH by 1.5 percent.

412SP Sentinel enters service

Article Abstract:

Hurst, TX-based Heli-Dyne Systems has shipped to the Ecuadorian Navy the first of two Bell 412EP Sentinel helicopters in Oct 1998. This would be followed by another aircraft in early 1999. The helicopters feature a quick-change mission suite integrated on a MIL STD 1553 databus, a Honeywell EFIS, dual Canadian Marconi CMA-2082 Avionics Management Systems and dual UNS-IC Flight Management Systems for long range GPS and Inertial/Doppler navigation. Heli-Dyne is the prime systems integrator and contractor for the Sentinel.

Article Abstract:

The London Underground has ordered $15-million worth of digital billboards from Imax Systems. Designed to replaced traditional poster advertising, the digital billboards can be changed on an hourly basis, displaying particular ads in certain stations for greater impact. Imax will install the billboards through its Digital Projection International subsidiary, in partnership with DHJ Media of Stockholm, Sweden. The two companies have also entered into a marketing agreement for the sale of the billboards in North America.
