New Tokyo airport under review

Article Abstract:

Japan's Ministry of Land, Transport and Infrastructure has started work on identifying a suitable site for the construction of a new airport for the Tokyo area. Prospective site location proposals are under review and it is likely that the Ministry will select a shorlist of four prosepctive sites for further consideration. The pressure is on the Japanese government to identify a suitable site and start construction of a new airport, given new competing super hub airports that are being developed throughout Asia.

Vancouver's winning ways

Article Abstract:

The Vancouver International Airport Authority is following Europe's lead by establishing business overseas. It has signed the management contract for its 16th airport location in the Cook Islands in the South Pacific in Jun 2000. Vancouver International Airport Authority's privatization in 1992 paved the way for its expansion abroad. It gave the company full control of its facility while its incorporation in 1994 gave it the option to create a profit-driven subsidiary, Vancouver Airport Services.

New Bangkok International faces further uncertainty

Article Abstract:

The New Bangkok International Airport (NBIA) faces further uncertainty, with the call for a complete review of the project by Thai prime minister- elect Thaksin Shinawatra. The much-delayed contract for the airport's new terminal has still not been awarded as of Feb 2001, and the procurement process has become embroiled in controversy. NBIA has indicated that unless the design is finalized and the contract awarded by Apr 2001, the airport's targeted opening date of late 2004 will not be met.
