New exchanges test Europe's old markets

Article Abstract:

Europe's traditional stock exchanges will have to compete soon with a number of new exchanges. These new exchanges make use of the latest developments in technology that have helped lower the barriers to entry. In response, Europe's traditional exchanges are considering a plan that would link them to each other.

Euronext affirms plan to launch IPO this year

Euronext NV confirmed its plans to launch an initial public offering (IPO) in 2001. The company hopes to sell off approximately 25% of its shares for about 1 billion euros.

Euronext reports 6.3% profit growth

Euronext N.V. posted an increase of 6.3% in its net profits for the 2001 first-half. The stock exchange was helped primarily by one-time gains and reduced taxes.
