New funding tools gain popularity

Article Abstract:

Capital markets are becoming more developed as sources of funds in the Pacific rim nations. The $2 billion Bakun Dam project in Borneo, Indonesian will be listed on the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange. The move will determine which Asian countries can tap local capital markets. The project marks the end of the habit of Asian project developers using banking institutions exclusively for financing. The money needed to finance infrastructure projects in Asia will mean that developers will need to find ways to get equity capital.

To prosper, Japan must learn how to take risks

Article Abstract:

Japan needs to prepare its financial system with a modernized and workable risk-capital market in order to rebound from its present financial turmoil and regain its feasible growth direction. Japan's biggest hindrance to continued economic growth is the country's dearth of a sufficient risk-capital market. The lack of success of the Japanese financial system to build a viable risk-capital market inhibits the opportunities for venture capitalists to build businesses.
