Nigeria's loss

Article Abstract:

The death of Chief Moshood Abiola in jail in Nigeria creates problems for Nigeria. Abiola had won elections in 1993 and there had been negotiations for his release. He had no political party since this was not permitted, and a successor cannot easily be chosen. Nigeria has great potential wealth which it has not exploited due to bad rulers, and poverty has afflicted the Nigerian people. Nigeria should rebuild its state institutions and privatize the public sector which has been wasteful.

Seething: Nigeria

Article Abstract:

Nigerian violence seems to erupt over the most seemingly innocuous issues. Religious, political and ethnic clashes have recently caused the government to clamp down on most associations. Police recently arrested the chairman of the Campaign for Democracy, an organization that criticizes the government.
