Nissin shelves Indofood deal with Salim; company won't be buying 30% of noodle maker after creditors object

Article Abstract:

Japan-based Nissin Food Products Co has decided not to pursue its plan to purchase 30% of Indonesia's Salim Group's instant-noodle manufacturer, PT Indofood Sukses Makmur, after Indofood creditors opposed it. However, the financially-troubled conglomerate's restructuring plan will not be interrupted because it has agreed to sell its Singapore property assets to Philippine tycoon John Gokongwei. Moreover, Indofood has become profitable again and First Pacific Co, Salim's listed Hong Kong affiliate, wants to purchase more than 30% of Indofood.

Nissin shelves Indofood deal with Salim

Article Abstract:

Nissin Food Co of Japan has decided not to proceed with its planned acquisition of 30% of PT Indofood Sukses Makmur from parent Salim Group of Indonesia. Nissin, which announced its decision on May 4, 1999, failed to issue a statement regarding the development. The proposed sale of Indofood, which has also faced opposition from a number of the company's creditors, was a major component of the restructuring process being implemented by Salim.
