Nokia earnings jump on emerging markets

Fourth-quarter net profit for Finnish telecommunications equipment firm Nokia Corp. rose 44% to reach $2.69 bil, driven by multimedia device sales and strong growth in emerging markets such as China and India. Mobile phone shipments increased 27% to 133.5 mil units.

Sony Ericsson net drops as it sells cheaper phones

Third-quarter net profit for Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications Management Ltd. fell 10% to $377.7 mil due to a drop in the average sales price of its phones and handsets. However, shipments of mobile phones rose by 31%, and revenue rose 6.7%.
