Norilsk takes steps to thwart takeover by Rusal

Article Abstract:

Russian metal-mining firm Norilsk Nickel has shown resistance to a $51 bil takeover bid by Russian aluminum company RUSAL. RUSAL is purchasing a 25% to 29% stake in Norilsk as an initial step toward a possible merger. A Norilsk-RUSAL merger would create one of the world's top five mining entities with a market value of up to $100 bil.

Rusal, Sual sign merger agreement

Article Abstract:

RusAl of Russia has announced acquisition plans with SUAL Holding also of Russia and Glencore International AG of Switzerland. The new aluminum industrial will be the largest in the world rivaling Alcoa Inc. of the United States. RusAl is planning a securities listing on the London Exchange within three years of the deal closing.
