Northern exposure

Article Abstract:

Mergers and acquisitions have become increasingly common among leading industrial companies in the north-west of England since the early 1990s. Companies seeking advice about mergers and acquisitions in the region have generally turned to Manchester, England, where a number of merger and acquisition providers have become established. These providers are now seeking to emphasize that they can also offer national coverage. Larger local law firms have also sought to present themselves as national players.

The race for the first Nordic champion

Article Abstract:

There have been a number of failed merger and acquisition deals between financial institutions in the Nordic region. There were 107 merger and acquisition deals announced by financial institutions in the region in 1998, of which most were in Sweden. It is anticipated that this trend will continue until at least 2002. Denmark is widely regarded as particularly over-banked, and extensive consolidation is expected there in the period to 2001.
