Norway's Statoil offers to acquire Canadian firm

Article Abstract:

A $2.2 bil offer has been made by Norwegian petroleum company Statoil ASA for Canada's North American Oil Sands Corp. The Alberta-based firm operates a region with recoverable oil reserves totaling 2.2 bil barrels. Statoil hopes the acquisition will help it meet its 2007 production target.

Statoil, Norsk Hydro create on Energy behemouth

Statoil ASA of Norway has purchased Norsk Hydro ASA also of Norway petroleum unit for a $30 billion share swap. The new synergy has a market capitalization of over $80 billion and will be ranked the fifth largest petroleum company in the world.

Norsk Hydro to sell polymer unit to Ineos for about $695 million
