EU gives Spain deadline to lift conditions on Endesa takeover

The European Commission has given the Spanish government until January 10, 2008 to lift restrictions on the takeover of electric utility Endesa S.A. by Acciona S.A. and Italian utility ENEL S.p.A. The Commission has ruled that Spain's restrictions violate rules guaranteeing free movement of capital in the European Union bloc.
