Novartis angers critics in India: challenge of patent laws creates uproar among public-health advocates

Swiss pharmaceutical company Novartis AG has launched a lawsuit in response to India's denial of a patent for cancer drug Gleeve c, requesting changes in India's patent laws. Health advocacy groups like Doctors Without Borders fear that c hanges in Indian patent laws could make it harder for India to supply generic drugs to developing countries.

Novartis case furthers India patent debate

A court in India has rejected a lawsuit filed by Swiss pharmaceutical firm Novartis AG aimed at changing the country's laws to simplify the drug patenting procedure.
