Novartis posts 17% profit rise on a 12% increase in revenue

Pharmaceutical company Novartis AG reports 2nd quarter earnings and raises its forecast for full year earnings. Chief executive officer Dan Vasella doesn't rule out acquisition plans for the company but cites financial results as evidence that Novartis does need rely on purchases in order to grow .

UBS is likely to post dismal results

UBS AG expects to post a 16% to 28% drop in its net profits for the 2001 first-quarter. The investment bank is forecasting between 1.6 billion and 1.85 billion Swiss francs in net profits for the period.

Julius Baer expects net to be sliced in half

Julius Baer Holding AG is forecasting a more than 50% decline it its net profit for the 2001 year. However, the company is predicting a rebound in growth for 2002 as a result of its cost saving efforts.
