Novartis shakes ranks as earnings flag: management swap, job cuts aim to cope with shifts in market

Article Abstract:

Third-quarter net profit for Swiss pharmaceutical firm Novartis AG rose to $6.87 bil; however, this was due primarily to sales of its medical nutrition and baby food businesses. Excluding these sales, profit dropped by 12% to reach $1.57 bil. Novartis announced plans for management restructuring, US job cuts, and reorganization of its pharmaceutical business.

Novartis's profit increases 32%, helped by a gain

Article Abstract:

Novartis AG of Switzerland net proft for the first quarter soared 32 percent to $1.96 billion from $1.48 billion last year. Revenue gains were aided by lower costs and a 13 percent sales increase. Financial projections expect increases with profits at record numbers.

European drug makers post strong third-quarter results

Several of Europe's largest pharmaceutical companies posted strong 3rd quarter earnings. The net profits of Novartis AG rose 21% to $1.55 billion. The net profits of Sanofi-Aventis S.A. rose 11% to $8.17 billion.
