Now, California

Article Abstract:

The California primary is a key stage in US presidential elections, and candidates who lose n California do not usually manage to become president. Al Gore looks likely to beat Bill Bradley in California, for the Democrats, but the Republican choice between John McCain and George W Bush looks less clear cut. California is becoming younger with a greater proportion of Latinos and African Americans, and older, white, intolerant Republicans present risks. Bush has drifted to the right, while McCain has made Republicans fashionable in some quarters.

Condit gets the finger

Article Abstract:

California's new map showing the changed boundaries of congressional districts reflects the compromises between the long-term and short-term goals of Democrats. The cautious nature of the changes is also due to the scandals affecting Democrat Gary Condit. The changes could hasten his exit.
