Now the hard part: Thai software law bites, but makers aren't satisfied

Article Abstract:

Software manufacturers are pleased that Thailand is enforcing its new intellectual-property law but say the law does not go far enough and that courts and the govt seem ambivalent. High local prices for software and a perception that such laws only protect foreigners discourage aggressive prosecution, and the law only bans selling, not using, pirated software. The police reportedly need convincing as well, and often want payment to enforce the law. Ultimately Thailand must be convinced that IP law helps it as well.

Exorcism for spam. A theory devised by an English vicar and adopted by smart anti-spammers is your best bet for keeping spam out of your inbox

Article Abstract:

According to MessageLabs (a company that sells services and software to block spam), for the first time ever, spam email has exceeded non-spam email being sent via the Internet. To combat spam, a probability theory developed by Thomas Bayes during the 18th century could be effective. The probability theory can function in a way suggestive of learning, which is to say the method could improve over time and usage. Some online sources are mentioned.
