Now what? Technology spending isn't Asia's solution

Article Abstract:

Business analysts report Asian corporations may not be ready for an American economic downturn despite technological investments totaling $65 billion dollars since 1998. While technological investments have included large scale internet projects and internal communication systems, analysts report Asian corporations have neglected cost reduction strategies, customer management technologies, and worker productivity enhancement strategies that facilitate growth durring times of economic downturn.

Start-up financier banks on Jah to serve tech flock

Jonathan Hakim, venture capitalist, recruited approximately 30 investors to each contribute $10,000 to $50,000 towards the startup of Jah, a restaurant geared towards Hong Kong's venture capitalists and technology industry. Jah, modeled after Buck's of Silicon Valley, features projectors with screens, broadband internet connections, and a variety of food.

Japan still strong for Oracle

Oracle Corp. reports that its business in Japan is growing despite the weak Japanese economy. The firm's database and application businesses in Japan have posted increases. Other technology firms also report that Japanese sales are on the upswing.
