CEK 20 bil in a talon

Article Abstract:

Czech Republic: The government should receive CEK 20 bil for the sale of four licences to operate a third generation of mobile telephone networks (UMTS) in 2001. According to specialists, the plans are unreal. According to a study of the prestigious investment bank Merrill Lynch, the price for one of the licences could be about CEK 80 mil, about CEK 2.8 bil, in the Czech Republic. Each of the three Czech mobile telephone operators, Eurotel (Czech Republic), Radiomobil (Czech Republic) and Cesky Mobil (Czech Republic), has a reserved attitude towards the plans of the government.

Paegas invests CEK 9 bil

Article Abstract:

Radiomobil (Prague, Czech Republic), operator of the second largest Czech mobile telephone network, invested about CEK 9 bil in 2000. The investments were intended mainly for the development of the GSM network. The firm started the implementation of the technology AMR at the end of Feb 2001. The technology will improve the quality of voice during calling. The implementation of the technology should be completed in Aug 2001. Radiomobil utilizes the mobile telephone network Paegas. The total number of the firm's base stations (BTS) was 2,500 at the end of Feb 2001.

Radiomobil will not buy the licence

Article Abstract:

Radiomobil (Prague, Czech Republic), mobile operator, will not pay CEK 5 bil for a licence to operate UMTS. The price has been fixed by the government. The firm is willing to pay only CEK 3 bil for the licence, having admitted a price of only CEK 1 bil recently. The operators Eurotel (Czech Republic) and Cesky Mobil (Czech Republic) are willing to pay CEK 2.8 bil for the licence at the most.
