ORIENTAL INSURANCE: COMPETITION IS A WELCOME SIGN

Article Abstract:

Mr SN Mathur of Oriental Insurance has welcomed the decision of the government to open up the insurance sector as it will lead to competition in the segment. Oriental Insurance is implementing computerisation to face the threat of increased competition. It plans to computerise all its offices by 200 AD. Oriental Insurance has changed its focus to rural areas and has developed over 50 policies for people in these areas. It plans to go in for for product diversification to give customers a wider choice. (tsm)(vr)

A new policy for life insurers

There is likely to be substantial restructuring of the life insurance and pensions market, with M&A activity increasing significantly. New York Life Worldwide Holding and St Jame's Place Capital (SJPC) have formed a joint venture, Life Assurance Holding Corporation (LAHC), to acquire and merge UK life insurance companies and manage their existing life assurance portfolios. the first acquisition was Windsor Life Assurance Company.

Justifying the use of portable computer technology by the salesforce of a large insurance company

Article Abstract:

An evaluation of the use of portable computers to increase the productivity of salespeople reveals that it is not possible to draw conclusive evidence from numerical data. The data, however, reveal that the the use of portable computers did increase the performance of better performing salespeople. The study further suggests that utilizing point-of-sale technology can aid in business process reengineering.
