Oil prices rally as tropical storm heads into Gulf, curbing output

Article Abstract:

Petroleum prices are up as a tropical storm heads into the Gulf of Mexico and oil companies have halted production, stopping six percent of oil production and four percent of gas production in the United States. Crude-oil futures for the month of August have increased 84 cents or 1.4 percent to $59.59 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

New senior adviser named by U.S. to aid Iraq's oil ministry

Article Abstract:

The U.S. has named Robert E. McKee as its new senior adviser to the Iraqi oil ministry. McKee is replacing Philip J. Carroll in the post. Efforts to revive Iraq's oil industry have been difficult.

Nigerian oil official quits amid turmoil

Nigeria's presidential adviser on oil affairs, Rilwanu Lukman, has resigned from his position. Lukman, a longtime official with OPEC, provided no additional details about his decision to quit.
