Liberalism lives

Article Abstract:

Liberal economic policies spread during the 1980s and 1990s, and popular support for protectionism has not increased, despite the economic problems of 1997 and 1998. Protectionist policies tend to become more popular after bad times have started, rather than as a view that is seen as likely to prevent bad times. There is some support for control of capital markets, which could worry liberals. There are also criticisms of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund.
