Oil's surge ignites cost increases for products from plastics to shoes

Article Abstract:

All sectors that use petroleum in production are seeing cost increases due to soaring oil prices. Mattel Barbies are selling at a 2 - 4 percent increase in price due to the cost of petroleum in production. Oil futures closed at a decrease of $1.43 or 2.5 percent at $56.03 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

Goodyear warns 2nd-quarter net to miss estimates

Article Abstract:

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. cautioned that its results for the second-quarter of 1999 will be well-below what had been predicted for the company. Goodyear attributed its warnings to difficult market environments and costly changes involving the integration and restructuring of its factory network. The company said that it will post approximately $64 million to $80 million in earnings for the period.
