Old world charm

Article Abstract:

European stock markets are becoming increasingly attractive, especially in the run-up to the introduction of a single European currency. These markets have been showing consistently strong returns since late 1996, with some leading indices trading at close to historic highs. Investors who have been negatively affected by the financial crisis in Asia may wish to consider entering Europe through a mutual fund. Investors seeking individual companies should focus on countries such as Germany, Italy and France.

Putting bonds up for auction

Article Abstract:

Taiwan's capital markets are beginning to rise from their existing state of chaos and immaturity. The breakdown of the stockmarket during the first half of 1990 has served as an impetus to lawmakers in their quest for greater market stability. Among the improvements are the licensing of more banks, the permission given to foreign institutional investors to invest in the equities market, and the creation of a public auction mechanism for government bond issuance.
