On the waterfront

Article Abstract:

Waterfront redevelopments have become popular among British urban planners, since waterfronts can add charm to redevelopments, while derelict canal and dock sites are associated with urban blight. Old industrial archaeology can help make waterfront redevelopments successful. A number of British cities have carried out such developments, and there is sometimes a tension between downmarket developments with large pubs, and developments catering to affluent consumers, with small stores and industrial archaeology. Crest Nicholson is seeking to carry out a downmarket development in Bristol, England, while an opposing plan is for a more upmarket development which sought to retain a warehouse that Crest Nicholson wanted to remove, and which has been burnt down.
