Opel shake-up tests GM efforts to unite world-wide units

Article Abstract:

General Motors Corp.'s decision to restructure management setup at its Adam Opel AG unit in Germany has resulted in the resignation of Hans Wilhelm Gaeb, the chairman of the unit's supervisory board. Gaeb, who stepped down on Oct. 24, 1998, following a series of internal problems that started with General Motors' decision to transfer Opel Chairman Gary Cowger back to the US and replace him with Peter Hanenberger, the international product development. The management problems at the Opel unit represents a setback to General Motors' goal of uniting its worldwide units.

GM earnings hit record in quarter, but shares fall

General Motors Corp has reported record earnings for the third quarter of 1999, thanks in part to strong North American results. On a per-share basis, the company earned $1.33, which easily beat the $1.24 expected by analysts. GM Europe's fell 36%, in part due to a "tough pricing environment."

GM expects results in third quarter to beat estimates

General Motors Corp. (GM) is forecasting slightly higher-than-expected for the 2001 third-quarter. The car maker also said that new vehicle demand in the US will be strong for the year.
