Open the floodgates: IMF-World Bank aid to start flowing into Vietnam

Article Abstract:

Vietnam has cleared its arrears with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), giving it access to funds from the IMF, World Bank and the Asian Development Bank as it continues its economic reforms. The arrears were cleared with money from Japan and France through a bridge loan involving 16 banks from 11 countries. The move makes Vietnam eligible for as much as $1 billion in IMF and World Bank aid in the next year to fund its numerous development projects. The US economic embargo against Vietnam means that US business will not be able to reap benefits from Vietnam's potential growth.
