Open wound: labour activist's murder haunts militia

Article Abstract:

The Indonesian military has reopened its investigation of the murder of labor activist Marsinah following a Supreme Court reversal of the convictions of eight people. Lawyer Trimoelya Soeryadi now routinely receives death threats over the case, in which he represented one defendant, perhaps because he says Marsinah died in military hands, after torture, and that torture extracted the confessions made by his client and the others. The new army chief of staff, Gen Hartono, was then the army commander in the region of the killing.

First proposed in the 1920s, the plan could take much more than the suggested three years. Some companies have expressed interest.
