More Moroccan private power plants

Article Abstract:

Morocco is undertaking a project to supply 2% of its electricity needs through wind power plants by the year 2000, costing $54.2 million. Electicite de France is providing 30% of the funding needed to lead a consortium to build a 50MW wind power plant in northern Morocco. The plants will be built for Office National de l'Electicite, which is state owned. Bids are being taken to build a 350MW electricity generating station at Tangier, costing an estimated $400 million.

Utilities in Abu Dhabi move forward

Article Abstract:

Private sector companies bidding for Abu Dhabi's state-owned water and power companies will finish submitting offers by Apr 1998. The Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority will take over from the state-run Water and Electricity Department during the privatization process. Utility companies called Mirfa Power Company, Taweelah Power Company, Umm al-Nar Power Company and Raynounah Power Company will be created.

Jordan experiment starts with hotels

Article Abstract:

Jordan's Interncontinental Hotel in Amman is up for sale with bids invited from both foreign and local investors. The state owned Jordan Investment Corporation (JIC) owns 87.7% of Jordan Hotels and Tourism Company (JHTC) the owner of the hotel. JIC General Manager Mohamad Batayneh hopes to attract companies in the same business, and the hotel sale will be the beginning of the eventual sell of of other holdings.
