Oral care products

Article Abstract:

The oral care market has four sectors: mouthwashes and rinses, dental floss, dental gum and disclosing tablets. The overall market was worth 485.5 million pounds sterling in 1996, representing an increase of 18.7% in real terms since 1992. The mouthwash sector had 70.7% of value sales in 1996. Colgate-Palmolive Co. dominates the market with a 16.7% share and Smithkline Beecham PLC has 15%. The mouthwash sector has not managed to obtain official accreditation and this is affecting sales. Sales of dental floss and gum are likely to increase by the year 2001.

High protection suntan products

Article Abstract:

UK sales of high protection factor suntan products are forecast to rise to 56 million pounds sterling in 1996 vs 46 million pounds in 1995, representing growth of 215% in 1991-96. Products with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 20 or above are enjoying the highest growth, and are expected to account for 50% of sales by value in 1996 vs 37% in 1991. The growth in high SPF products is attributed to recent hot summers and a greater awareness of the dangers of the sun.
