Orbcomm gives TRI license to sell global messaging service in region

Article Abstract:

Orbcomm Global L.P. has awarded the contract to sell its messaging services in Singapore, Brunei and Malaysia to Technology Resources Industries Bhd. The latter holds a 15% ownership share in Orbcomm and is involved in a wide range of products including real estate and golf courses. Orbcomm, on the other hand, envisions the setting up of a network consisting of 28 low-earth orbit satellites around the world for electronic mail purposes.

Investors in Iridium project will provide extra funds after failed bond issue

Article Abstract:

Iridium Inc. announced that its investors have agreed to infuse another $300 million into the company. The additional cash will replace the company's planned junk-bond offering, which was not well-received by the investment community. Senior Iridium officials stated that investors decided to raise the money among themselves after realizing the high rate of return that Iridium would have had to pay.

PanAmSat and JSAT venture to offer data, services to Asia

Article Abstract:

PanAmSat Corp. of the U.S. and JSAT Corp. of Japan have created a joint venture to launch and use a new satellite, which could lead to future strategic ties. JSAT will be the first Japanese satellite firm to offer services to the U.S., and PanAmSat may pursue further global alliances.
