Parking spaces: mainland Chinese seek discrete home for funds

Article Abstract:

Commercial property speculation by mainland Chinese are raising property prices in Hong Kong by as much as 30%. New investors provide stark contrasts against the conservative investing practices of traditional mainland Chinese investors, including China Merchants Holdings and China International Trust and Investment Co. The activities of these new investing companies are disguised from Peking which discourages speculative purchasing. Meanwhile, Hong Kong investors look toward Guangdong and other development provinces for property investment opportunities.

Another country

Article Abstract:

Indian businessmen are ignoring the doomsayers who expect the country's reforms to falter, and are instead pressing ahead with huge investments in new, more competitive projects. Despite delays in privatization and a budget that does not deliver hoped-for belt-tightening, the underlying economy is booming and industrial production is approaching a 20% annual growth rate. Much of the funding for this, however, is coming from overseas investors, as India's savings rate remains near 20%.

The minidisc drive

Article Abstract:

Sony and Matsushita of Japan are trying to overcome the glut in the electronics industry by pushing two new products, the minidisc stereo player and the digital compact cassette (DCC), respectively. The 100,000 yen minidisc player has a 4-megabit memory chip to give excellent sound clarity. The DCC costs 135,000 yen. However, sales of both products are not likely to pick up because both the gadgets are highly-priced improvements of existing products.
