Pearson says it's considering possible Madame Tussauds bids

Pearson PLC Chief Executive Marjorie Scardino is considering possible bids for Madame Tussauds waxworks museum in London, UK, which is run by the Tussauds Group Scardino. The move has been expected since Pearson acquired in May 1998, Simon & Schuster Inc.'s educational publishing business from Viacom Inc. for $4.6 billion. Aside from the Madame Tussauds waxworks museum, the Tussauds Group Scardino also runs the London Planetarium, Scenerama in Amsterdam, Netherlands, and Alton Towers theme park in England, UK.

Green light seen near for major defense deal

Article Abstract:

British Aerospace's (BAe) merger with Marconi Electric Systems is expected to be approved by the end of September 1999. Marconi is a subsidiary of General Electric Company PLC. The planned merger is valued at 7.7 billion euros (11.69 billion euros). The merger was announced eight months earlier. The deal is the largest merger ever in the European defense industry.
