Perturbation analysis of discrete event systems: concepts, algorithms, and applications

Article Abstract:

Perturbation analysis is used to analyze a single sample path of a discrete event system to provide estimates of performance sensitivities with respect to system parameters. The technique is patterned after the concept of linearization of nonlinear continuous variable dynamic systems. The technique minimizes computation in simulation for system optimization. It can be used for on-line performance optimization of real-world systems since it is bases on a single sample path.

Article Abstract:

The study of evacuation systems must be based on quantifiable performance measures. The performance of evacuation systems can be improved through several corrective measures. These include reduced interpretation time and reaction time of personnel, better walking time, improved organization of the evacuation process, proper reactionary training of personnel and minimize accident effects.
