Philip Morris blocks Yesmoke from sale of cigarettes in U.S

Article Abstract:

Tobacco company Phili p Morris Inc. has won the rights to the U.S.-registered domain name of online cigarette retailer Yesmoke SA. Philip Morris won the rights in a suit it brought against the Swiss company claiming that Yesmoke was following unfair market practices and that it was guilty of trademark infringement. The case was heard in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York and is part of Philip Morris's effort to put a stop to the selling of cigarettes over the Internet.

Philip Morris gets big legal victory

Article Abstract:

Philip Morris Companies Inc. of the United States has won, as a $10.1 billion case claiming false advertising of "light" cigarettes was thrown out of the Illinois Supreme Court. The precedent setting case should prevent similar civil litigation and also clears the path for Altria Group Inc., the parent company, to implement a corporate restructuring.

U.S. government lawyers are trying to obtain the "Foyle Memorandum" for their $280 billion case against the tobacco companies. Tobacco company lawyers claim that the memorandum is covered by attorney-client privilege. The government claims that the memorandum proves their case.
