Planning models for freight transportation

Article Abstract:

The planning and management of freight transportation should be based on integrated and efficient transportation systems that are fully organized at the strategic, tactical and operational levels. Decision-making during transportation planning should include logistics system design derived from strategic planning models such as location models and network design models. Furthermore, operational issues such as tactical load planning, scheduling, resource allocation and vehicle routing problems should be incorporated in the overall transportation strategy.
