Planning the evolution to broadband access networks: a multicriteria approach

Article Abstract:

A multicriteria model was proposed to investigate evolution situations related to the deployment of new supporting broadband technologies in the access network. The model, which is based on a state transition diagram, enables supporting decision makers and planning engineers to effectively deal with the assessment of modernization policies involving local telecommunications networks. It takes into consideration various objectives associated with the selection of efficient evolution plans towards a wide array of new service offerings to be delivered to homes through utilization of broadband technologies.

Optimal placement of add/drop multiplexers: static and dynamic models

Article Abstract:

Consideration of static and dynamic models were undertaken to address the add/drop multiplexers (ADM) placement problem. Such approach revealed the effectiveness of mixed integer programming models and standard mixed integer programming software in resolving the ADM placement problem. The effectiveness of proposed model reformulations in finding optimal solutions for the static problem was also established.

Economic spare capacity planning for DCS mesh-restorable networks

Article Abstract:

The algorithm proposed to solve the integer programming formulation of the spare channel assignment problem for Digital Cross-Connect System mesh-restorable networks based on line restoration can decipher real world problems to optimality within a reasonable time. An efficient constraint generation routine was developed to solve the linear programming relaxation of the problem.
