Planning the planet

Article Abstract:

An estimated 100 million pounds sterling is being spent on the creation of the Earth Centre on 170ha of land in Yorkshire, England. The site was formally a coal pit which closed in the 1980s. The Earth Centre is an ecological exhibition area. Landscape architects Grant Associates point out the project is not a temporary exhibition, such as a garden festival. There are concerns the project will not encourage a sufficient number of visitors to make it viable. Further construction is due on the site, with a conference building made of recycled materials due to be completed in 2000.

Geuze is als working on several other major civic open spaces and squares in Rotterdam. Geuze set up West 8 ten years ago, and he has also run landscape courses.
