Pleasures of the Caribbean

Article Abstract:

The Caribbean area is famous for its tourist attractions and also for its offshore banking industry. The Bahamas, Bermuda, the British Virgin Islands and Cayman Islands are the major offshore financial centers. They all offer the advantages of political stability, freedom from taxation, and low registration and maintenance costs. The important features of investing in the Caribbean's major offshore centers are discussed.

Targeting Asians: agencies in US tailor messages to new immigrants

Article Abstract:

US corporate advertisers and their ad agencies are now focusing their attention onthe largely untapped Asian American immigrant market. Statistics indicate that the number of Asian Americans in the country nearly doubled from 3.5 million to7.3 million over the period 1982-92. Ads aimed at these Asian Americans generally assume that the group is conservative in their attitudes and are strongly imbued with the work ethic.

Singaporean ventures in the US high technology industry have been beset by losses. Two government corporations, Singapore Technologies Ventures and the Economic Development Board, have so far failed to reap profits from their investments in Silicon Valley. The Singaporean government has already invested as much as $300 million in various high technology deals with US companies.
