Poland begins tender for two GSMs

Article Abstract:

The Ministry of Telecommunications in Poland has offered information on tender procedures for the construction and operation of Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) networks. The tender offers will be evaluated based on experience in providing GSM services, the technical and economic proposals and the economic and financial conditions of operating the system. There is speculation that well-known providers such as Deutsche Telecom, Bell Atlantic and vendors such as Nokia, Alcatel and Ericcson, will be bidding.

Tobacco sell-off ignited

Article Abstract:

Poland plans privatization of the tobacco industry, with five plants to be sold before year-end 1995. The plants have been turned into companies for the sale. Investors will have to make a number of commitments on investment levels, employment and wages, production levels, and local content. Employees will obtain free shares. The most likely investors are multinational companies such as Philip Morris. The Polish Privatization Ministryis being advised by Morgan Grenfell and Arthur Andersen.

Poland to sell oil, tobacco and power

Article Abstract:

The Economic Committee of the Polish Government has approved plans to privatise the oil and tobacco industries. The first stage of the oil sector privatisation would involve the setting up of a state owned holding Polish Oil Company (POC) to control the domestic market. CPN, the distribution enterprise would be divided. The second stage would involve refinery privatisation.
