Portugal promises for 1997

Article Abstract:

The sale by the Portuguese government of a 25-30% stake in Electricidade de Portugal in the first quarter of 1997 will represent a large part of the target privatisation revenues of $2.6 billion for 1997. Other planned deals include the third phase of the privatisation of Portugal Telecom and the two-phase sale of chemical concern Quimigal. The first quarter of 1997 will also see the third stage of the privatisation of Banco Fomento e Exterior.

UK power package

Article Abstract:

The UK government is to sell its remaining shares in National Power and PowerGen and has announced details of the offer structure and marketing campaign. It is expected that the section relating to regulation and the political environment of the pathfinder prospectus will be studied carefully. About 40% of the shares will be available to retail investors and payment will be in three yearly instalments.

Investors subscribe UK power issue

Article Abstract:

The UK government's sale of its remaining shareholding in PowerGen and National Power is being finalised. It will incorporate a UK public offer aimed at retaile investors and two open priced international tender offers aimed at both UK and global investors. Co-ordinators are BZW and Kleinwort Benson.
