Harnischfeger is seeking to acquire Dobson Park which has refused an increased offer. Dobson argues that earnings in the mining equipment industry are recovering and that no premium is being alowed for Longwall's market dominance. Dobson ranks first in longwall mining methods and the system is increasingly used in the US. Harnischfeger would make a number of savings from the acquisition of Dobson, which would allow technology to be integrated.

Porobeton Trutnov

Krkonosske vapenky (KP) (Kuncice, Czech Republic), dry plaster and mortar mixture producer, has bought Porobeton (Trutnov, Czech Republic). In 1999 KP bought a similar production plant near Teplice, the Czech Republic. KP expects its proceeds to increase by 9% to 200 mil Kc in 1999 compared to 1998. The firm saw a net profit of 6.8 mil Kc in 1998. KP has a 5% share on the Czech market in its field.

The ballad and the folklorist
Article Abstract:
David Buchan's scholarship influenced the structural and historical perspective of ballads and folk music study. His "The Ballad and the Folk" is one of his greatest contributions, however all of his writings are contributions in innovative theory. Despite Buchan's devout study of historical dimensions, he kept grounded in the folk and social context of the work.
