Process makes perfect

Article Abstract:

Architect Niall McLaughlin is becoming better-known in the profession but he has enjoyed working on the smaller projects which have occupied much of his working life. He enjoys the process of working on a design to get it right, and he enjoys immersing himself in the different environments encompassing each new project. McLaughlin's favourite projects include the design of a window for a home and the design of a house for a wooded hillside location. McLaughlin will soon start work on the design of a bandstand for the De La Warr pavilion.

Painting a perfect picture

Article Abstract:

MetaCreations' Painter 6 program offers a significantly improved interface compared with earlier versions. The interface is designed to free up as much screen space as possible while controls remain easily accessible. The overall structure has been designed to reflect industry-standard applications such as Adobe's Photoshop. Several new brushes have been added, while overall brush rendering time has been improved. One of the most attractive features is Impasto, which replicates painting with depth.

Leisure pool that makes a splash

Article Abstract:

The new Water Palace in Hamilton, Strathclyde, a leisure pool, was designed by Faulkner Browns architects. The building is a simple extruded form, modified at one end to open up views of the Old Baths and creating an open landscaped space. Access to the level 2 entrance is arranged directly from the car park, and the change in level enabled the creation of a sunken garden, incorporating the outdoor pool and sunbathing terraces.
