Processed foods, confectionery and bakery products in Germany

Article Abstract:

The food and drinks industry in Germany saw total output rise to 220.8 billion German marks in 1995, up 1.4% from 217.7 billion German marks in 1994. Sales of packaged groceries reached some 227 billion German marks in 1995. Consumption of meat and meat products declined overall during the period, although fish consumption rose. Dairy product output is thought to have risen in 1995, as did production of bakery and confectionery products. It is expected that the grocery sector will remain static in 1996, although some sectors, such as fruit, cereals and health foods, will grow.
