Product review

Article Abstract:

UK brick manufacturers continue to widen the selection they offer. The industry can provide precision bricks or irregular bricks to suit location, and it can provide bricks with special qualities, including Baggeridge Brick's high-durability sill bricks. The range of concrete blocks has also increased and Tarmac Topblock has introduced classification to aid specification. Manufacturers are responding to increasing interest in glass blocks. Brick or block pavers which fit in with local architecture are available, as well as an increasing range of geometrical shapes.

Product review

Article Abstract:

There are many different types of brick available in the UK, and this can make it very hard for specifiers to make a decision. However, there is a clear trend towards machine-made bricks which have a hand-made appearance. Bricks which have a flecked colouring resembling the impurities seen in traditional bricks are popular, and it is even possible to purchase new bricks designed to look like reclaimed bricks. Glass blocks have become more popular over recent years, although their use is still not particularly widespread.

Product review

Article Abstract:

The UK brick and block industry is currently undergoing a period of consolidation, with few innovative new products being launched. This is the result of severe recession in the construction industry. Product ranges in areas such as clay facing bricks are constantly expanding, but this can actually create rather than resolve problems for specifiers. Manufacturers are seeking to attract buyers with a wide range of impressive trade literature.
