There have been significant developments in architectural products for use in landscaping and exterior works. Permeable paving systems, for example, are likely to become more widely used, while concrete pavers will remain popular. In paving as a whole, designers are now favouring simpler designs. In the street furniture sector, designs remain rather uninspiring, but Marshalls has introduced a contemporary-style range of street furniture in Italian and French designs. There have been substantial improvements in external lighting designs.

The UK flooring industry is being influenced by several trends, including a focus on naturally ventilated buildings and a growing trend towards the integration of services within structure. These trends are reflected in the increasing use of precast hollowcore concrete floor planks, which are both inexpensive and allow the mass of the building to be used to moderate internal temperatures. Glazed ceramic floor tiles are becoming more popular with UK consumers, and are now the fastest growing sector of the UK tile market.
