Productivity differences in the airline industry: partial deregulation versus short run protection

Article Abstract:

Major airlines involved in the signing of a liberal bilateral agreement during the 1980s were seen to be more productive and efficient in their operation. Meanwhile, those operating under protective policies, encountered difficulty in adjusting and competing to the demand in major routes. Nevertheless, partial deregulation revitalized pursuit of short and long term efficiency programs. These productivity differences were demonstrated in an stochastic production function analysis of the European airline industry from the 1980s through the 1990s.

Reputations in the adoption of a new technology

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the impact on new technology adoption of reputations is presented. The analysis considers uncertainty effects on the timing of adoption policies. It is shown that when firms exhibit uncertainty over rival innovative capacities and adoption profitability, a richer and more plausible adoption condition theory develops, where rents are always actualized and returns are not equalized for varied adoption periods.

Strategic bidding in electricity pools with short-lived bids: an application to the Spanish market

Article Abstract:

The Spanish electricity pool is simulated to show that price-cost margins increased after the industry became a six-firm structure instead of a four-firm structure. Research shows this system is similar to a nearly symmetric duopoly.
