The facets of the modeling and validation process in operations research

Article Abstract:

A technique for evaluating the process of modeling and validation in operations research is presented. A contextual classification of OR problems can be made through the use of the modeling-validation tetrahedron formed by the 'managerial situation,' 'conceptual model,' 'formal model' and 'decisions.' This also allows for the identification of required validation types and their relative importance.
