Purchase quantity discounts and open order rescheduling in an assemble-to-order environment: the hidden economic tradeoffs

Article Abstract:

Evidence was found with regards to implementation of dynamic purchase quantity lot sizing procedures when order scheduling is integrated into manufacturing systems. Evaluation of several purchase quantity discount lot size models revealed the desirability of implementing filtered rescheduling with dynamic discount lot sizing rules as it results to optimization of systems performance. The existence of linkages between manufacturing system rescheduling decision and purchasing decision was also noted.

Offsetting inventory cycles of items sharing storage

Article Abstract:

The idea to formulate a problem and find a scheme to offset the inventory cycles for products on the time axis in a way that minimizes the peak total storage requirement over an infinite time horizon is discussed. Heuristics for offsetting independent and unrestricted ordering cycles for items to minimize their joint storage requirements, may help in solving more general problems of selecting order quantities to reduce combined holding, storage costs and ordering.

Supply chain partnerships: opportunities for operations research

Article Abstract:

A review of research literature on supply chain management and engineering showed that a large number of firms engaged in the activity have little appreciation or understanding of the concept, preferring to sport an 'adversarial' relationship with suppliers and manufacturing partners rather than a 'trusting' relationship. This kind of relationship needs to be established among partners and suppliers to elicit the full effect of supply chain management.
