Article Abstract:

The financial planning needs of company directors will vary as the transition is made between the four main lifestages. These are setting up in business, planning a family, being married with children and planning retirement. In the first stage, life assurance may not be necessary, but it is important to consider critical-illness cover and permanent health insurance, as well as pension provision. In the second stage, life cover should be at least 10 times income. In the third stage, attention can be given to savings and retirement planning, while in the final stage care should be taken to maximize pension contributions.

Article Abstract:

Allan Willett is executive chairman of Willett International producing coding, labelling and bar code printing machines. The company's products include ink-jet, thermal transfer and laser printers and labelling machines, with the majority of turnover generated outside the UK. A US manufacturing division was established in 1983 and the company has invested in new markets and new technologies. It remains close to its customers and is able to control the after-market by reducing its dependence on distributors. Allan Willett plans to invest further in the company, particularly in R&D.

Putting it all in focus

Article Abstract:

Chief executive of Eastman Kodak, George Fisher, introduced changes to the company when he joined because he felt Eastman Kodak had over-diversified. Fisher turned the focus back onto photographic products and services, and has introduced customer satisfaction procedures. Fisher's attentions have also been directed towards the Japanese government's strategy of restricting foreign competition within Japan, with the result that Eastman Kodak has only been able to capture 10% of that consumer market, compared to between 40-70% of the worldwide market.
