The legals of trading loan books

Article Abstract:

Several large and small UK mortgage loan books have been traded since 1993, due to foreign lenders seeking to withdraw from the UK market and more recently the excess of supply over demand for residential loans. Traditional mortgage lenders are finding it increasingly hard to attract borrowers on standard variable rate loans: borrowers are now being offered incentives such as cashbacks, discounted rates and low fixed rates. Buying a mortgage book allows lenders to meet their targets for balance sheet growth without having to pay potential borrowers or brokers to attract new business.
